Poured from a 16 oz can into a pint glass. The appearance is a really cool red color with a small white head. The aroma is caramel, vanilla and a hit of whiskey. The taste is sweet with sorghum and whiskey.

I thought it was much better than some reviewers did. The head does fade pretty fast, but it looks nice enough in the glass. Nothing special, but nice all the same. The mouth feel was good, and I quite liked the taste. I'm not a big barrel aging fan, but I thought it worked rather well on this one. Definitely noticed it on the finish, and before, but not in an overpowering way. I thought the other flavors played together well, too. They all seemed to find your attention, but never in a distracting, too-much-going-on kind of way.

Quite an interesting beer. The color is an almost opaque brown with the slightest red tint to it. The smell is sweet caramel, bourbon, vanilla, molasses, and perhaps a scent of coconut. The taste is both sweet and bitter with the sorghum perhaps contributing to both. There is some vanilla and bourbon. I am not really finding the ginger. The finish is quite bitter and not entirely pleasing. I can't put my finger on the source of the bitterness but it just isn't pleasant to me. I truly appreciate the complexity of this beer but the finish throws this beer off for me.

Nice full-bodied brown ale. Supposed to be "imperial" but not feeling it. Great mouth feel, lovely color, but having difficulty appreciating finer flavors claimed on the can. Hearty, but not greatly robust or flavorful. Doesn't punch you in the face like some other imperial browns (Chickow) but decent.

An interesting set of ingredients in this beer, hominy grits, sorgum, and aged in ginger bourbon barrel from Virgil Kaine Low Country Whiskey Co.Pours a clear rich tawny color with a thick but quick to fade beige head atop, seems highly carbonated from the looks.Cleaner aromas,I pick up some molasses and grain but again quite light.A thinner feel for a beer of its "size".Caramel malts are the main component of the flavor profile there is a faint ginger and boozy fruitiness but it doesn't really hit home quite enough for me.Not bad but it lacks depth in body and flavor for it to be really good.
