Appearance: This beer pours a beautiful black color with little head. Lacing was noted down the glass as the beer was consumed.
Smell: A solid malt backbone with citrus and pine hit you in the face. There is just a touch of chocolate notes from the dark malt.
Taste: The hops are full on in this ebony beauty. The chocolate notes usually found with dark beers are subdued. Obviously, the dark malts were are mainly for color which is what I like in this style of beer.
Mouthfeel: A solid beer that is on the heavy side but extremely drinkable.
Overall: A solid Black IPA. I will definitely head back to Big Lake brewing for another and also to try their other beers.
