I Told You This Would Happen DDH Triple IPA is an oat and wheat heavy triple IPA with a soft, pillowy mouthfeel which comes in at a very under-the-radar-ABV of 10%. It’s dry hopped at a generous 5 pounds per barrel with nearly 2 pounds per barrel cool whirlpool using three very high-impact aroma hops: Citra, Amarillo, and Strata.

Pours a super hazed amber with 2 fingers of rocky beige head. Average head retention & lacing, stays murked up
S: Loads of citrus, some tropical fruit
T: Passion fruit, guava, oranges & pink grapefruit, some dryness & lime up front. More grapefruit, some leafy hops, passion fruit & some green melon as this warms up, some pine shows as well. Finishes dry, piney with passion fruit & guava, plus green melon
MF: Medium body, creamy carbonation, nice balance
Very nice, heavy hitting IPA

Had I Told You This Would Happen at Cochon, New Orleans, on draft into snifter.
This is an extraordinarily light, mildly citrus and sweet tropical 10.00 ABV IPA. Drink it if you can find it, but be careful.

CAN: 16 fl oz pull-tab can. Canned 11/20/19. Collaboration brew between Great Raft and Celestial Beerworks.
"A double dry hopped triple India Pale Ale." 10% ABV.
HEAD: ~4cm in height. White in colour. ~8 minute retention is impressive given the high ABV.
BODY: Murky pulpy dark orange. Dull and lifeless...not great looking. It'd look better filtered. I see no yeast/lees within (which would at least indicate some life).
Not a great looking imperial IPA, but it's decent for an unfiltered one I guess. Appears well-carbonated.
AROMA: Mosaic is indicated via its signature blueberry note - to me, anyway - but I guess this is only hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo, and Citra, so I'm obviously off-base (I guess the Strata is bringing berry aromatics?). Floral and fresh. Milkshakey bright fruit...not overly tropical in its fruit emphasis like so many (I)IPAs out there. Rind. Maybe guava.
Wheat. Pale malt/2-row.
Surprisingly mellow for a 10% IIPA...doesn't seem aggressive at all. Suggests an imperial IPA with a well disguised alcohol content and a rather mild hop profile.
No oniony aromatics from Simcoe.
TASTE & TEXTURE: Silky and coating. Medum-bodied with an obvious pulpiness to it. The ABV is buried; I'd never figure this for 10% ABV in a blind taste test. Fruity and citrusy with obvious citrus peel (tangerine?). Floral.
I don't get any oniony/garlicky notes from the Simcoe. Not as fresh tasting or pungent hopwise as would be ideal in an imperial IPA. But it's well balanced and mellow - two things I'm not used to saying about imperial IPAs.
Perfectly carbonated with a good overall presence on the palate devoid of any alcohol warmth or other issues. I'm surprised how soft it is and how easily it drinks.
Pale malts/2-row and wheat give this its light malt backbone, with oats in there for leavening.
I can't get past its creamy softness...this beer's texture is heaven. I don't know how you make a beer this pulpy without also making it too viscous, but they did it.
OVERALL: It just doesn't bring the hop pungency and hop flavour I'd expect a beer in this style to, which is my biggest criticism of the beer as a whole. Neither Citra nor Simcoe are showcased to their fullest extent. I do like the Strata-imbued passionfruit, but this just isn't as hoppy as it needs to be on a fundamental level...I'm not sure if the wheat, oats, and lack of filtration are interfering with the ability of the hops to land on the palate, but like many turbid (I)IPAs this lacks the hop pungency of even a run-of-the-mill widely distributed "regular" IIPA (e.g. Lagunitas Sucks) to its detriment.
Nevertheless, it's a well balanced ale and one hell of an efficient alcohol delivery mechanism...I can't remember the last time I drank a hoppy ale this high in ABV that drank this easily. Shit's dangerous in the best of ways, and the mouthfeel is celestial.
It's rare you find a beer this mediocre looking that tastes this good.
