Aged for over a year in Maker’s Mark barrels, Terms of Surrender is a black hole of luxurious dark and roasted malts expressed in a glory of abundance. Surrender to this intensely rich stout boasting flavors of chocolate, caramel, and coffee atop an assertive background of oak and bourbon.

Pours black with two fingers of tan foam. Aroma is roasty and toasty malts. Thick barrel along with thick booze & char. Molasses and chocolate. Flavor profile is a little smoother than the nose, but gets bitter at close. Roasty and toasty malts mingle over barrel, which comes with an abrupt injection of alcohol. Mouth feel is medium-thick. Fuzzy with some sharp-ish effervescence. Overall, big and boozy is the story, and not in a balanced or nuanced way.

I’m not a pro and not big on reviews but I had to give it a go on this one. The poor was jet black and thick with a solid dark tan foam that took its time rising to the top but hung around forever. The smell is dark bread, burnt cane sugar and bourbon. The taste is Steen’s syrup, bitter coffee, and bourbon sweetness. The feel was thick, smooth and creamy. It’s exactly what you want out of a barrel aged stout, and perfect for a cold rainy Louisiana day.
