This one came to me in support of The CANQuest (tm) courtesy of my local, in-person trader, tone77. I am always interested to see what he will drop off for me.
From the CAN: "Beach Bum Joe was conceptualized after many beers by two friends on a beach one glorious Sunday Funday. This combination of a American Pale and a Belgian Style Golden Ale is light bodied, crisp, and refreshing. Beach Bum Joe hints a slight tropical fruit profile derived from late addition hops, and is finished with our house Belgian style yeast strain."; "Art Work by: Tom Ryan of Tom Ryan's Studio"; "Designed By: www.TomRyansStudio.com".
Man, I hated to Crack! Joe, but that was the only way that I could think of to get things started. He seemed cool with it, so I did a very gentle Glug as my nod to his acquiescence. An in-glass swirl raised a finger of fizzy, foamy, French Vanilla-colored head that quickly went back down the beach to return to wisps. Color was Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was kind of odd with a caramel maltiness and a pineapple fruitiness with an underlying mustiness. Hmmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was more like papaya and mango, lightly sweet, with that musty, papery taste underlying the main flavors. The malt was not as pronounced as it was on the nose and actually had a toasty breadiness. Finish was dry, more tropical fruity than anything else, but the Belgian-style yeast strain added a mustiness that I remained unsold upon.

Beautiful pour followed by average aroma and taste. Hazy yellow golden body, small creamy head. Aroma is initially yeast, but not very full. Taste falls flat, dry and chalky, more of an APA than a Belgian, yeast seems to be the only thing driving it in that direction. Average

Can into pint glass. Hazy yellow with a thick white head. Medium carbonation. Bready, earthy, yeasty, definitely Belgian in character. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the style so my rating reflects my personal preferences, not necessarily the quality of the beer. Cool can, though. And I've rated other Mispillion offerings very highly. Do not overlook this brewery!

Poured from a 12 oz can into a pint glass. Pours a nice orange color with a white head. Smells of Belgian yeast. Very drinkable beer. Nicely carbonated. I found it to be a very enjoyable pale ale.

So when I first saw it was a Belgium Pale Ale, I wasn't too impressed, the artwork on hte can is money however! I was hesitant to try it at first, however I've always been a fan of anything Belgium, especially when we get to talking about tripel's and quads, but I degress. It smells like a Belgium when you pour it, you can smell that malt that is unique to Belgium's. It's by far the best "pale ale" I've ever had!

Pretty good brew from Mispiliion. Poured from a 12 oz can.
Would drink again, but would probably buy Beazly(Ozzy), over this next time around. None the less, enjoyable.
