Mispillion River Brewing "War Possum"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 12/28/22" and sampled on 03/05/23
$4.99 @ total Wine & More, Claymont, DE
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is an electrolyte infused beer? WTF? Is there Gatorade added to this? There's nothing on the label so who knows where those electrolytes came from? It's poured a very hazy gold body beneath a short head of white that's already dissipated. The aroma suggests a light berry juice. I can't pick out any specific berry but it seems like there's some strawberry there. On to the taste... it tastes like it smells with some added acidity. It's not too tart, and you can still taste the malt. I'm still not really getting any specific berry flavor, which is fine as it has a distinct and clear berry-like flavor. If I was forced to choose I'd go with strawberry and red raspberry. It's not bitter but that's to be expected, and it still finishes dry with a dollop of malt and berry sweetness fading. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. I'm not sure why the electrolytes are added as this is a pretty good beer on its own. Is it just gimmick, or is it more? The head didn't hold up at all but that's to be expected of a sour beer, and of course no lacing followed. I find it pleasant, highly drinkable, and refreshing.
