This Russian Imperial Coffee stout was aged 4 months in stainless steal then 4 months in American Oak barrels that previously contained French Whisky from Bretagne.

The Coffee was provided by our roaster friends at Terre de café, it was added in our hopback and by cold steeping!

A: Pours an opaque dark thick viscous jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising slowly along the edges of the glass and extremely faint very dark cola brown + very dark chestnut brown + mocha colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense fizzy foamy dark mocha colored head that slowly reduces to a medium sized patch of very thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of roasted + dark + chocolate malts with light to moderate amounts of dark fruit (plum + cherry + fig) + chocolate sweetness. There is a moderate aroma of freshly roasted + brewed coffee and cocoa as well as just shy of moderate aromas of whiskey + oak + caramel.

T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted + dark + chocolate malts with light to moderate amounts of dark fruit (plum + cherry + fig) + caramel + chocolate sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of freshly roasted + brewed coffee as well as cocoa. Finally there are just shy of moderate flavors of whiskey, oak, and caramel. Light to moderate amounts of lingering roasty bitterness in the finish.

M: Medium to full bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a light amount of tannin dryness in the finish.

O: Drinks pretty easily considering the strength and the alcohol is relatively well hidden. Very enjoyable with really nice whiskey and coffee flavors + aromas which complement the underlying Russian Imperial Stout.
