As the name implies, this is an unfiltered amber colored ale. Toasty malt character gives way to a mild malt sweetness balanced by earthy hop character. It has a smooth, soft mouth feel with a dry finish and mellow hop flavor.

Hoppy Hanukkah box set 2022 night 8.
Pours copper amber semi-clear with light fading head. Malty sweet bread on the nose with a nice semi-sweet / semi-bitter hop flavor make for a decent amber.
“Toasted malt gives way to early and balanced hop undertones that balances sweetness and bitterness.”

basic but quality amber ale here, these guys do the old school stuff well, and this has a lot going for it, better than its ratings for sure, and frankly one of the better amber or red types i have had locally since ive been in idaho, which i guess is a pretty low bar, but its the truth. it doesnt smell like much, just a toasted note with a little toffee there, but the flavor is a little more dynamic and deep with a sort of roasted warmth to it and a little bit of hops on the back end, not dramatic but flavorful for sure. even though the beer has some caramel sweetness in it, its not sugary when it finishes and it warms up better than most of these as i let it sit a minute. light almond and brown sugar character here, a little bit of needed hop bitterness late, and a pretty complete fermentation. medium bodied, a little sudsy feeling, decent carbonation, and about what you would expect from a better than average example of the style. its been the newer and more ambitious beers from sockeye that have impressed me most, but this is pretty good for what it is...

On tap in Boise.
Berry dark for style, worth a fine looking, clear, red-brown body and a decent head.
Lightly sweet up front worth a mildly bitter, relatively hoppy finish.
Smooth medium+ body with light carbonation.

Pint with a late lunch.... Surprised I haven’t rated this one yet.... Clear amber with a long lasting off white head... Dry toast.. Well balanced residual maltiness helps temper the good PNW bitterness... Very drinkable and refreshing in this heat.

Round from Sockeye. Amber body with very thin , foamy head. Normal malty aroma and taste, nothing memorable or exciting, decent beer, but not my favorite style.

On-tap @ Sockeye, served in a pint glass.
A: Cloudy amber with off-white head.
S: Malty upfront, with pretty big toasted grain aromas and a hint of toast for 4.5%. Nutty too...smoke? Definitely there. Fruity esters are subdued and there is the faintest suggestion of caramel sweetness.
T: More toasted malt base, with amber/toffee sweetness making a subdued appearance in the middle of the flavor profile. Faint earthy hop presence. Some sweeter malt breadiness, possibly cocoa as well? More nuttiness and that faint smoke.
MF: Creamy, medium body.
O: Drinks like a larger malt-forward Amber Ale. Well done and enjoyable for what it is.
