On tap at the Cole brewpub. Smooth and silky, but comes off overly sweet, overpowering any of the dark roastiness of the stout backbone. Some elements of chocolate milk, dark brown body with almost no head. Sweet, but too sweet for my taste.

an excellent beer here, a true to style example of what one of these should be, sweet sure, but not too sweet to drink, and excellent on nitro at their brewpub. shiny and pure looking, near black brownish colored and with a gorgeous inch and a half of foam from the nitro tap. big chocolate in the nose and taste for me, both dark and milk, sweet and desserty in the middle with a little caramel and toffee from a lighter malt layer, but balanced by rather robust dark roasted grain that hints at bitter high cacao dark chocolate bar and good espresso. its so smooth with the nitro, perfectly suited for this format really, it makes a boldly flavored, sweet, and fuller bodied beer quite drinkable. they didnt overdo it on the lactose either, and the smooth creaminess it has from the milk sugar is just right. very mellow, with dry cocoa on the tongue at the end, just a trace of bittering hop, and a certain richness that gives it a wintery vibe. impressive in terms of overall quality. sockeye beers have been way better than their general reputation seems to be in my experience, especially at the brewery. this is among the best of its kind in the boise area for sure!
