a brut ipa with tangerine, curiously served on cask at the brewery. i say surprisingly because it seems counter intuitive to serve a beer thats supposed to be bright and effervescent in a format well known to produce mostly flat beer, but it ends up being a nonissue here, as this really is quite lively in this format, super well executed in that regard. the orange has some sweetness to it, a bit less than i recall in the pineapple version of this being, and a little richer in color and malt character too, so much so that i wonder if the base beer is identical or not. the fruit is natural and has some oiliness and bitterness to it that works with the hops, but i didnt find this to be particularly hoppy, at least from a new school standpoint typically associated with the brut ipa style, its not big and juicy dry hoppy, and the varietals dont seem to be anything new or interesting, its as bitter as it is fruity once i get past the tangerine itself, still good, but odd for the style. there is less carbonation than most of these with the cask obviously, but there is also a cool smoothness and almost textural maturity thats a fair exchange here, i like the mouthfeel. overall a drinkable beer that blends a number of cool style elements and techniques, well worth checking out at the brewery while its on!
