i have a hard time calling this one a lambic or classic kriek, but its right there in the name, it seems not right to add it as something else other than a lambic, but this isnt anything like the lambic of belgium, and actually seems kettle soured to me, no wild character or open capture properties to this at all to my nose or tongue, and as nice as the cherry is and as much as i appreciate the piquant brew, its not a lambic to me. i find it hard to believe this is a turbid mash, done with aged hops, wild yeast, and aged in oak, it demonstrates almost none of that, could have called it a cherry berliner and had me fine with that. its pinkish rose colored, short headed, under carbonated, not quite clear, and seemingly glowing more orange as it sits on the bar. it smells and tastes good to me, natural cherry, more tart than sweet, and some wheat in the mash for sure, maybe some pils malt too, simple but good back and forth between fruit and grain. some tannins in here, a light funk as it warms, and maybe some wood too, a vinegar sourness comes up too though, almost flanders-esque, good, but not like lambic to me, and i wish it wasnt so still. as a traditional lambic, this is a no way from me, but as a cherry sour of any other persuasion, i like it just fine. good cherry palate, sharp and somewhat clean on the sourness, puckery and tangy and natural. a different side of sockeye than i have gotten used to with their packaged offerings (this was on tap at handlebar), but its cool they are playing around with this sort of thing. lambic is too far a stretch for this though...
