this is a sunbeam variant. on cask at the brewery, an awesome beer, you never see styles this modern in cask form, and i always think these guys do a nice job with their cask beers, the texture is always on point, soft and smooth and easy drinking. this is a sturdy ipa as a base, and has strawberries and i would guess some milk sugar in it as well, not quite a real fruit nose or taste, its too intense and forward for that i think, but its not like candy either, maybes more like cooked strawberries like you might find in a pie or a tart, sweet but not over the top, and balanced by some hop bitterness. there is a short but thick layer of white head on this from the cask, a creamy topping to this sort of thing seems perfect. there is some bite from the hops, some complimentary citrus too, but this drinks like a fruit beer first and an ipa second. some sweet orange and honey notes to this, a splash of vanilla, and all the berries in the finish, slightly boozy too, more and more as it warms. overall delicious and unique, neat beer for the cask format, pillowy mouthfeel and robustly flavored. im glad we got into this yesterday, it was an unexpected success.
