Good job on this one Sockeye, this leans a bit towards a Black IPA at points, very smooth and not overly roasty, with some earthy hoppiness and mild bitterness, smoke. Kinda of a hybrid beer from the look all the way to the finish, but overall a fun one to drink, it fills a niche for me.

a very robust and well done stout here, i think its high time they had something like this on the menu, other stouts have been desserty or huge, this one fits in well. deep close to black color in the pint glass, good head on it, and pretty dense looking for its abv. the aroma immediately strikes me as a little bit smoked, like there has to be a pinch of smoked malt in here, a cherrywood smoked type malt to me, slightly sweet in with that, and some bitter dark chocolate notes from all the roast in here too, earthy and bitter it seems, not overly complex but sturdy as they come. the smoke seems to pick up as it warms, and even though their beer menu makes no mention of it, this probably should be promoted as a smoke beer. good balance though, maybe an english yeast strain, smooth in feel, maybe some oats in the mash, some deep roast and an espresso note to finish, on the dry side for what it is. overall a very well crafted brew here, fully autumnal to wintery, and one that may surprise some folks, but i liked the smoke element a lot, and think they have another winner here. the one offs and seasonals are always on point at sockeye.
