The beer pours a very clear golden to copper color with a frothy yet soft bleached white head of 2 cm foaming up. Very lazy bubbles rise to the surface slowly from the bottom of my glass. the foam slowly fades to a scattered series of islands and leaves windowpane lattice on my glass.

Aroma is unique....I get some light fruit, white grapes, green apple and maybe pears. A little something spicy in the background and maybe, just maybe mild bubble gum. No hop character and not really fusol or boozy either. no barrel character from the barrel aging.

First sip reveals a relatively light body and surprisingly prickly carbonation. texture is a little slick but sticky on my lips.
Flavor is similar to the nose but also a little bit of tartness, maybe just more green apple? Definitely fruit forward, no hint of any hop character and a hint of peppery bitey booze at the end. Pears and some tartness dominate.

Im not sure the green apple is supposed to be there. And the coffee described by other reviewer (albeit 6 years ago), make me think this has changed quite a bit.
I tasted this blind and enjoyed the mental game, but hard pressed to find any stout quality in this one.

i always hate calling a golden stout a stout, but it is what it is. this might be named donnies dangerous golden stout, but its a coffee and chocolate brew thats pale in color, hides its alcohol well, and drinks quite a bit lighter and drier than a lot of these do, so i cant complain. it smells a lot like coffee, fresh ground beans, not yet brewed, earthy and decadent, warming and complex, with the cocoa a bitter baking type to me, also dry, and working super well with the coffee, these dont quite fill in for dark roasted barley like a normal stout would have in the taste, but they come close enough for me to just go with this instead of being critical. some pale oats must be in the mash beefing this up, as its quite full and smooth, still much thinner than an imperial stout with similar styling would be, but it does have a stout-esque texture i suppose. dangerous is appropriate because it doesnt drink close to 10% abv at all, no heat anywhere, which is impressive. its still a touch sweet to want a lot of, at least for me, even though its less so than a lot of others in this style ive had before. i like all the coffee, but could use a little more bitterness out of it for balance. cool brew, nice to see some more experimental stuff from these guys, they always have something fun at the brewery to try!
