the latest and greatest from sockeye, easily the best hoppy beer i have ever had from them, just went on tap this past weekend, what a beer! kind of on the fence between hazy pale and ipa, more unfiltered than heavy dense looking, bright yellow in the glass still, short lived by frothy white head that leaves intricate lacing as it drinks down, boldly dry hopped with the fresh hops, minimally bitter bit still intense, thats why its sort of both pale and ipa at the same time, at least to me. i love this time of year for beer, and this is precisely why. simple brew really, maybe a little wheat with some pale two row in the mash is all, light cereal character but very dry, just a little earthy support for all these hops, which i think are relatively locally grown. sabro is taking off, and in this context it shines brightest in my opinion. notes of lime leaf, green gooseberry, lush aloe and cucumber water, lemongrass and meyer lemon, resinous and oily and ripe, some subtle yellow peach character too, equal parts fruity and herbal, and very pungent in both aroma and flavor, this really pops and is bright, and there is an oily palate coating linger to this that i really like, and that you can truly only get from fresh hop beers. cant say enough about this one, a could have stayed and drank it all day, one of the very best sockeye beers i have ever had and an early highlight of wet hop season this year!
