really exceptional example of the style, my first dip into it for the season this year, and it totally hit the mark. i would say this is easily the best one of these locally available here, and maybe even beyond that, its exactly what i look for in these, and nothing i dont, malt driven but still with some crispness and high drinkability, earthy and nuanced without being dense or overly complex, and very fresh while also having some old timey european character to it, just really well designed and executed here, a high point of their seasonal program at sockeye for sure. a nice bronze color here, great clarity in the glass, and an average white head on it with plenty of carbonation. smells and tastes just a tad nutty, lightly caramelized but then is dry to drink, hints of almond and graham cracker to me, maybe a little honey in that way, just a little bit of noble hop bitterness and then a lager yeast thats faintly german, highly efficient and drying, and with a lightly bready vibe to it that seems to help all the elements coalesce in a real special way. the flavor climax is brief and the beer approaches yellow lager refreshment level, which is shockingly impressive in this maltier style. the mouthfeel is right on, the flavors are authentic but not generic, and overall this is one of the best beers ive ever had here. i will be back for plenty more of this as we move into fall! boise is lucky to have this so widely available here, its fantastic!

Amber pour with thin beige head, sticky lacing, light malty aroma. Taste is sweet malt, hints of maple, caramel and toffee. Mouthfeel is slick to watery, with lingering candy sweetness, slightly metallic. Good try, but just average.

Picked up some pounder cans tonight for a pretty expensive $3ish at Brewforia Meridian (will probably be cheaper around town) ... Poured into my big nonic glass... Fairly clear amber red brew with a lite tan head that doesn't stick around for too long.

Nose is big toasty notes with pretty nutty maltiness..

Flavor mirrors the nose... but there is a bit of fruitiness that I can grab but have a hard time identifying.. Not sure if a lager yeast was used; but if not, they did a good job making sure this was a clean rendition of the style.

Well done and obviously tastes fresh.... Was lager yeast used? I want to know.

On tap at Sockeye's (S)ocktoberfest party, 10/8/11.

A: Pours ruddy amber with golden hues and off white lace that sticks fairly well.

S: Caramel malts and roasted characters, small amounts of bittering hops and a slight floral/herbal component.

T: Mirrors the nose; more caramelly than toasty, and not overly bitter...although the finish is a touch dry. Good toasted grain presence, bits of woody/nutty character.

MF: Fuller than most Oktoberfest beers I've enjoyed this year. Moderate body, low carbonation.

O: An ok offering, holds its own for the style I believe.

22 oz. unlabeled bottle gifted by local brewer, consumed at pre-BCS party.

One finger off-white head, medium dissipation with above average lacing. Clear light amber body, multiple streams of rising carbonation. Nose is fairly bready with a slight bit of roast and caramel, floral hops. Taste mirrors the nose, a fair bit of toast, some caramel sweetness in the middle, minimal hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is on the full side of medium, decent effervescence. Good drinkability, but to be honest, not a very memorable beer.
