Sep. 2017: 330 ml can, as Fourpure Deucebox Citrus Double IPA, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 8.3%, 70 IBU. Deep golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Strong aroma of tropical fruit juice (including mango and passion fruit) and fruity and piney hops. Hoppy and very bitter flavour, but also a considerable sweetness of tropical fruit juice.

440ml can.
L: Opaque, burnt orange with a thin but long-lasting head.
S: Big blast of Seville orange marmalade.
T: Marmalade again but keeping it light and citrusy. West coast pine and resin builds over time, as does bitterness. Aftertaste is alcoholic and rich, unctuous orange syrup.
F: Medium/full body with a slick, oily mouthfeel. Finish is very dry.
O: A full-on double IPA, gloriously marmalade-like with a heft of resinous hops to prevent sickliness. Alcohol is hidden but quickly becomes evident. Do not operate heavy machinery!

440ml Can from Asda, Enniskillen (£1.50):
Bright amber & hazy with a thin head that's frothy white. The nose is sharp with plenty citrus & dry hops, orange & grapefruit. It's not as strong as expected for the strength but the taste is slightly more pronounced with lots of citrus & orange, grapefruit & bitter pine hops. The alcohol content is masked well & it's fairly easy to drink too, with moderate carbonation & a slightly warming finish.

Can, 2m old.
Hazy light golden, sufficient foam.
Nose is pure pine mixed with citrus. Nothing individual, but a pure expression of the style.
Taste adds the appropriate sweetness and a counterpart to the decent bitterness and the pine/citrus flavour. Again, hard to say anything differentiating, but this is good and true to style. Alcohol is very well hidden.
A textbook example of a West Coast DIPA.

Sorry but I can't hold the conclusion back until the end: this is a great beer!
Let's see how we got there: rich golden amber in color, fully, fruity hopped in the nose and amazingly rich, intense and hoppy, tropical fruity, piney in the taste that has also an interesting piney, grassy overtone. It IS exactly like the original West Coasters! It is a great beer that you can enjoy to the fullness! Read the comments on the can and you will agree...
"Deucebox oranges are harvested by blasting California Dreaming through very large speakers at such a high intensity, the fruit just falls from the trees and juices itself. These are then added to our Citrus IPA recipe with twice the hops, twice the malt and twice the juice to serve up a punchy, tropical glass of joy, every time."

Hazy amber orange color with a thin head with low retention.
Delicious aroma with predominant notes of tangerines, pine, mild spices, fresh oranges, grapefruit and lychees.
Flavor with notes of tangerines, grapefruit, pine, mango, lemongrass, lychees, some spices, mild caramel, peaches and lime. Dry and bitter aftertaste. Its 70 IBUs are relatively friendly.
Medium towards full body with perfect carbonation. Alcohol of 8.3% is superbly well hidden.
Excellent citrusy DIPA with great drinkability despite its 70 IBUs and high alcohol content. Perfect sweetness level with bold citrusy and piney notes. I wouldn’t mind to have this in my fridge regularly.

Pours a clear orange, with a massive head, thick and pillowy. Leaves huge amounts of lacy curtains on the glass. Stunning looking beer!
Smell is piney and citrusy, with real heft to it.
Taste is very much West Coast, with huge chunks of piney resin and citrus followed by a slightly charred note.Bitterness is long, powerful and lingering.
Mouthfeel is medium and sticky, great carbonation.
Overall, a terrific West Coast DIPA, that looks beautiful.
