Wasn't too impressed with their last beer, but it wasn't too bad. Hopefully this is better as I want to like new breweries in MA.
Pours a fizzy almost creamy fluffy like 1 finger head that fades at a med pace, nice lines of lacing, mostly clear slight hazy honey orange slight copper tan like colored beer with lots of streaming bubbles.
Nose is mixed, it has some interesting aromas from mild toasty straw and nice vienna malt character, bit grainy with a mild sweet malt character, thankfully not overly caramelized like most American breweries try to do. however, the fruity yeast just runs rampant, so fruity, like they used the ale yeast that tries to be like a lager, forget what it's called, and it was a little too warm and just put out so many fruity esters, and just a touch of a grassy hop note I think.
Taste brings a lot more nice malt character, toasty vienna malt, soft but with a nice creamy like feel, and good toastiness, grainy flavor, a decent sweetness without that caramel again. The fruitiness is there but a lot lighter, just a touch of the fruity esters from the yeast, perhaps they could have had better flocculation or even attenuation, it does seem a bit rushed even for an ale attempting to be a lager. The hops are nice too, a good grassy hop profile with decent bitterness, a little fruity hop character too that turns slightly earthy and spicy late. AS it dries it attempts to dry and get crisp, but leaves a weird almost slimy taste, which again makes me think it didn't attenuate enough and the yeast wasn't completely done yet, a bit more spicy like and grassy hop bitterness, and a bit more of the fruity esters.
Mouth is med to a bit lighter bod, a bit light on the carbonation too, decent soft feel on the malt but sticky almost slimy finish.
Overall pretty good, it is much better than I expected for an American Oktoberfest style that is actually an ale. Nice hop profile but wish it was a bit more on the aroma, nice malt profile all around, but the yeast would ahve been better had it had the time to finish and possibly start a bit stronger. Either way pretty enjoyable and refreshing. Booze is also hidden well for a 7% beer. Could use a bit of improvement though, but on the right track.
