This English IPA drinks like a dream. Just picked up a sixer at Specs and was blown away.

I had this with bratwurst and authentic German pretzel and this is exactly what I needed on a hot day.

Was expecting a more boozy taste for an IPA over 7% but to my surprise it drank more like a Belgian.

This is going to be an unscheduled review as the CAN began making odd noises and suddenly part of the lid pooched up as though it would burst and explode! The picture is already approved, so no worries there, and a thanks goes out to @jenray for sending me some of this new breweries' CANs. I put this bad actor right into the reefer to cool off and I will CANduct the review very shortly.

From the CAN: "Made in Texas"; "The Texian schooner Brutus was one of the first 4 ships in the Texian Navy during the revolution. Responsible for stopping the flow of supplies bound for the Mexi[CAN] army, the Brutus undoubtedly played an important role in slowing down Santa Anna's troops."; "Brutus is an English IPA that provides just enough malt character to help balance out the aroma brought by the classic English hop varieties."; "Brewed Proudly in Richmond, Texas"; "Go Texan"; "A fine Texan Ale".

Man, this was one highly (if not over-)carbonated beer! It had pooched up the lid, it burst forth following the Crack and any and every attempt at a Glug produced gushing foam. Whee! I loves me a challenge and this was certainly one. Massive amounts of dense, tawny foam filled the glass, resembling a giant scoop of ice cream. As it settled, it was a turbid, murky liquid that resulted. Color was muddy brown (SRM = ~ 13). Nose evinced a flowery hoppiness, very earthy, much like a wet hopped IPA. Mouthfeel was medium and the taste was much hoppier than I expected, given the style that they were trying to emulate. It really was very earthy and I was very much put in mind of a wet-hopped IPA. I really liked this, but I have to admit to being offput by its explosiveness. Finish had a grainy, granular quality, as though saturated with hops. Hmm. I may ask JenRay to send two more of these so that I CAN pass one on and a second for me to revisit this beer.
