12 oz can pours way overcarbonated, taking 3 pour-n-waits to get it into a glass. Leaves a large-bubbled, craggy tan head on top of a hazed brown brew.

Nose is pretty classically dunkelweiss - chocolate covered banana studded with cloves. Pretty potent and delectable.

Taste shows a carbonic bite with some subdued yeasty notes in the background. The chocolate malt flavors are flabby at best..approaching watery. Fairly easy to drink, but misses on a few marks key to a good dunkelweiss - the wheatiness needs more crisp snappiness and the yeast needs to have a more vibrant presence. I wont have any problem finishing this sixer, but when the dark wheat crave hits again this wont be the first DW I'll seek out.

 

I did not mention it during a recent interview (no lie!) about The CANQuest (TM), but a useful tenet of action is that if a CAN begins making odd noises and begins to act as though it will burst and explode, it should be reviewed as quickly as possible, no matter where its current place in the CANQueue. Such was the case with another of Texian's CANs yesterday and so I am going to review its brethren today to circumvent any possible explosions. A thanks goes out to @jenray for sending me some of this new breweries' CANs.

Having just returned from the annual Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony in Lancaster square on an already hot, humid day, I have decided to use this Crack! as my salute to fallen comrades everywhere. Loads of foam shot out following the Crack!, so I employed a gentle Glug, just to be on the safe side. Even so, heavy foam was the order of the day, but I am a patient man, allowing the dense, light-tan head to slowly fall and become something drinkable. Someone (like me) should alert these guys to the level of carbonation being experienced in their CANned beers. I have to say, I did not really mind watching the mound of head that resembled the top of a coffee ice cream cone pop and burp and slowly fall. It was cheap entertainment while it lasted, which was a good while, actually. Finally, the CAN was empty, I still had a finger of head, but it was time to move onward. Color was a slightly hazy medium-brown (SRM = > 22, < 27). Nose smelled of milk chocolate and banana. Ha! Mouthfeel was sort of thin, especially given all of the carbonation involved. The flavor was quite sweet, more toward milk chocolate, but underlain with banana. Finish was likewise sweet and not my style at all. YMMV.

This one pours about the color of a strong iced or black tea. Very brown and semi-translucent allowing light to penetrate while being diffused by the cloudiness. the lacing is very promising as it leaves a very nice pattern as this one settles very slowly.

The nose is a nice sweet malt foundation with a slight hopped tinge balanced with some breadiness, camphor, pepper and coriander.

The taste is decent with the malt also being dominant here. The yeast and the hops are in balance with each other and the finish is very clean. A generally drinkable beer but not spectacular.

The mouthfeel is a bit watery for such a style so points lost for that.

Overall quite drinkable but not a favorite. I would recommend it as it is a fine example of this style.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pours out a murky dark brown with a thick off-white head. Heavy handed in the nose with toasted and roasty malts. Overwhelms the yeast character. I get a bigger whiff of banana than clove or bubblegum. Too toasty. Flavor is a toast bomb as well. The yeast is quite odd for what you'd expect for a dunkelweizen. Typical weizen yeast flavors are very tame. The yeast has a more earthy/fungal/flat British ale yeast flavor. Kind of reminds me of a not great attempt at an American brown ale, trying to be an English brown ale. Mouthfeel is moderate. The carbonation stings the tongue. Not into this.
