I used to have my studio in the same complex as this brewery... got to watch them go from a small startup to a thriving local concern... I remember when they brought in the first great big pallets full of aluminum cans! Local beers available locally, can't go wrong with that! Used to draw in some crowds too on Friday and Saturday nights, I bet they still do although I'm no longer in the area.
Promising pour, almost opaque Brown with a rather fizzy tan head that doesn't last but does leave some lacing. Coffee, roasted malt on the nose.
A bit too light on the palate I think, due to what seems almost like a generic American beer level of carbonation. I don't claim to be an expert except on stouts and porters, and this one misses the mark in terms of mouth feel. Doesn't have that huge complex creaminess of Samuel Smith or Fullers. Whatever reason I cannot find an American oatmeal Stout that really nails that full density, I don't know if it has something to do with the amount of carbonation American Brewers use or the water or what, but they all seem generic, all the ones I've had at least. The fact that this is a bit lighter than the English stouts maybe a plus for you though. Some decent hop bitterness on the aftertaste.
Overall certainly better than average for an American oatmeal Stout.
