A rich and creamy stout with loads of roasted barley and roasted oats infused with 70 IBU’s of hop bitterness to balance this really big beer. (SAY NOIR)

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, earth, and char aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, roasted nut, earth, and char flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink, even with its high ABV.

This beer is very comparable to the Old Rasputin Imperial Stout brewed by North Coast Brewing Co., but with subtle differences. While they share a similarly creamy head and a similar flavor palette, C'est Noir has a milder hop character which doesn't bite the tongue the way Old Rasputin or Abyss (Deschutes) do; however, at 10.8% ABV, it will get you drunk just as quickly (lightweights beware!).
Don't be discouraged by all the local vineyards, If you find yourself in Livermore California and you're into imperial stouts, I would highly recommend that you stop by Working Man brewery or one of the local liquor stores and try this beer.
