Dark, dark brown brew with foam that renews with each swirl. Lots of lacing in the Piraat tulip. A foamy mouthfeel that fizzes as you sip. Winey and grainy and spicy.
Malty, rich, and dark with blackened grain. Not at all sticky. Sweet but edged with sharp acidity for a nice balance. A touch of licorice. Modest bitterness and a caramel finish. Pleasant and sippable dark brew. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at the brewery in Oceanside.

On tap at the Legacy tasting room.
Pour is a black that reminds me of the color of Joe Mauer’s hair, for some reason, perhaps because the catcher on my old man baseball team has exactly the same color on his head. I have no idea why I’m thinking of Joe Mauer as I stare into the depths of this beer. Nose is roast, not much more.
Czarface isn’t quite on point. The roast comes on strong, but it has a harsh, serrated edge to it that harks back to bad hotel room coffee; borderline ashy, spare dark fruits, raisins left out in the sun too long. All the tastes seem just a beat off, though the alcohol shines through clearly. Glad I only dipped into a taster of this one.
Not a bad beer, but it’s harsh and tough to drink. Almost mediocre.
