Very dark red-brown with quite modest carbonation, though there is pleasant tingle on the tongue. Sweet and raisiny with a pleasant woody finish. Silky and full bodied with a deep, dark roasted malt flavor. Just a slight bitter aftertaste. Hints of honey and, well, more than a hint of fruitcake.
This is actually a pretty good Doppelbock, even if it could use a little more spritz. From the 32 oz growler filled today at the brewery in Oceanside. Will have to check out their new kitchen and tasting room on Miramar Rd. in San Diego.
