Drank from a 500ml bottle purchased at Bier Haus, Portland, ME
Served in a tulip
Dark brown bordering on black appearance. A bit lighter in color and thinner in body than anticipated. The liquid was capped by an inch-tall, tight, fluffy, mocha colored crown that slowly dropped to a thick, bubbly collar. Dots of lacing trickled down the sides of the glass.
The aroma was impressive. Coffee notes came through big time. Medium roast coffee to be precise. Roasted malts were also apparent. Good dose of semisweet chocolate as well. Brown sugar notes were also detectable.
The flavor profile was very similar to the nose. Coffee notes came through strong. Big roasted malt presence up front. Semisweet chocolate appeared in the center. Brown sugar was also noticeable. Bit of vanilla too. Some oxidation was detectable on the back end initially, but it dissipated as the beer sat. Hint of lingering roasty bitterness after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was a touch thinner than anticipated. Slightly less than medium bodied for the style. The liquid contained a finer beaded, moderate effervescence that fluffed up very nicely on the palate.
2nd Crack is an impressive albeit lighter bodied pastry stout that got better as it warmed. My only complaint was that the maple and lactose additions were not listed on the beer label nor were they noticeable in either the aroma or the flavor profile.

L - pours like motor oil. Thick and splashy. Tough to get a head going. Deep shade of brown, borderline black. Mocha tan head with crimson highlights when aggressively swirled. Fine-bubbled and creamy-looking.
S - roasted burnt popcorn coffee grounds. Maple, brown sugar, and caramel. Maybe a kiss of citrus and berries. Baker's chocolate.
T - light roast coffee flavors with a bold roast bitterness. Vanilla, blueberry, and whipped cream. Maple candies add sweetness to help break up any acridity. Getting some Cocoa Pebbles and milk! Finish is neutral and sticky. Dangerous in that it invites sip after sip.
F - lactose makes this a heavenly delight to sip on and slosh between the teeth and tongue. Full-bodied, creamy, and relatively low in carbonation levels make this a silky smooth criminal.
O - great coffee stout if you like 'em on the lighter side. Playful vanilla and light roast balanced by maple sweetness make this a decadent treat.

500 ml bottle.
Pours a jet black color with a finger of frothy caramel head. Moderate retention with minimal lacing.
Aromas of fresh roast coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, roasted malts and light maple syrup.
The flavor is full of roasted coffee beans, maple syrup, caramel chews, and dark chocolate. There's some back cherries on the finish.
The feel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Creamy and extremely boozy.
Overall this is a very good imperial coffee stout. The coffee notes are strong, but get overshadowed by sweeter caramel and chocolate notes, as well as the booze.

A: Pours a near pitch black color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap
S: Roasted malt, coffee, maple syrup, dark chocolate, and a touch of caramel
T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the roasted malt and a huge amount of coffee. Maple syrup and dark chocolate follow, along with a touch of alcohol. Some caramel comes through as well. Finishes with lingering coffee
M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. On the creamier side thanks to the lactose
O: Holy coffee!! This thing comes out charging with the coffee and never slows down. The maple syrup plays a bit of catch-up and never really gets there, which is perfectly fine. It is still nicely balanced, especially with the abv. Makes for a great breakfast or anytime sipper. Definitely worth checking out
