Glows bright reddish copper with a thin ring and no head in an Aromatic snifter from Pretentious Glass Co. A viscus film clings to the glass for a long time without producing legs.
The aroma opens with figs, plumbs, a dabbling of sherry, and Kawffe (coffee for all you non-Jersey natives) and light alcohol fumes. The charred malt, spice, and molasses is very nice indeed.
Flavors are interesting. The coffee shines against a mild, balanced backdrop of sweet bitterness. Warmth definitely kicks up the figs, prunes and the malt. The MALT! Toffee and char are exquisite. The finish is mild, by comparison only. It grips the throat for a long time, saying, “enjoy that espresso, my friend. Enjoy all the nuances.” And yet, the coffee never quite dominates. It’s quite perplexing.
A full body with a soft smooth texture, interrupted by light prickly carbonation. Alcohol is a tad lower than expected, for 12.6%. There is a mild warming sensation and nibbling on the tongue reminding one to take it slow.
Definitely more British then American, although less so than the base beer. This is an excellent choice for sipping and whiling away the hours. Wonderful as this is, personally, the base version is preferable. Still, this bottle is goin down!

This one pours a dark-ish brown color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like spicy and roasty coffee, with caramel, vanilla, bourbon, and oak.
This is a particularly spicy and roasty coffee blend used for this one, but it works well. There’s a lot of oakiness and bourbon here, with some bittersweet caramel, sweet toffee, and a touch of chocolate.
This is medium bodied, and not very boozy, with a decent drinkability.
The coffee might have been a little less spicy if I had had this sooner, but I still quite enjoyed this.

Up front this is basically a really nice barrel aged barleywine. I get lots of toffee with some well incorporated smooth bourbon, there is a little roasty char as well. Towards the middle vanilla chimes in before the coffee kicks in more strongly at the finish. It doesn't overpower the base barleywine and it all gels together well. The exhale reminds me of mellow cold brew. As it warms this really starts to shine.
