Finally: our take on a (modern-leaning) West Coast IPA. Generously hopped with Simcoe, brewed with a heavy dose of Maine-grown pils, and fermented with Southern California Ale Yeast. Clean, floral, and fruity with juuust the right touch of West Coast-style bitterness.

On tap at Bissell Brothers Brewing Co in Portland, ME.
This one pours a light clear orange-ish color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells very floral and piney, with some grapefruit and marijuana.
Bissell does very good hazy, New England-style IPAs, but they clearly can also do more older school West Coast style IPAs well, too. This is floral, piney, and refreshing, with very little maltiness. It’s slightly fruity, with grapefruit and melon.
This is very crisp, finishes clean and smooth, with a nice little bitterness to it.
This is a simple and straightforward West Coast IPA, done very well.

Poured into a pint glass from a can. Beer is mostly clear, golden straw colored, with a thin head. Not much nose. Taste is malt up front with a hoppy, bitter finish. Notes of orange pith, faint pine, maybe melon. Mouthfeel is good. Nicely carbonated. Easy drinking. Overall, a fine west-coast IPA. Crisp, well-balanced. Nothing out of the ordinary, but that's not necessarily a negative.

I am the biggest BB fan around, have been for a very long time. But this beer completely misses the mark and needs a major reboot. It is the wrong color, totally lacks malty body, and is certainly not hoppy enough to be a West Coast IPA.
