Smokey, Balanced, Refreshing. This pale beer is brewed with a blend of both beech wood and cherry wood smoked malts. The Lubitsch Touch is very light and refreshing take on a German rauchbier, with just a touch of balanced smoke in the finish.

Growler from the brewery. I haven't had this beer in years.
Pouring a faintly hazy yellow with a dense, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing, this looks great! The nose opens faintly smoky with a touch of honey, dough and a mildly minty/herbal hop character. The smoke character is mild, maybe even milder than the Schlenkerla Helles, with a faintly cherry/apple wood smoke character. Refreshing. The palate is sublime. Opening firmly but mildly smoky with a blend of burnt sugar and dying embers before a brilliant bitterness, mildly oily, mildly minty and moderately earthy takes over, coating the palate and locking in the smoke. In between, the doughy and mildly bready/honey-like malt character raises its head gracefully, lending a fullness to the palate that belies the low ABV. Medium light in body with soft carbonation, this beer has a long finish with a blend of earthy hops and delicate smoke. The mid-palate is just a hair thin, but apart from that, this beer is pretty exceptional. Highly recommended.

On tap at R.F.D in DC. Nice subtle smoked elements to this pale beer. Light, hazy golden pour. Malts in the nose, more smoke/ashy taste comes out in the flavor. While not a full blown rauch, this would be a great gateway to the style.

A refreshingly light rauchbier. Good drinking here, corn as an adjunct helps to determine this beers finish and body.

On tap at Right Proper Brewing Company in Washington, DC.
Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A thick lattice of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of smoked malt, grain, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, smoke, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of smoke bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a mild smoke presence that makes this one tasty and easy to drink.

Faint smoke on nose. Lite smoke on taste. Excellent!
