Notes: Vinous, Dry, Funk. Fermented in one of our 45hl French oak foeders with our house yeast blend along with a half-ton of Merlot and Tannat grape pomace from our friends at Tarara Winery in Virginia. Hopping with Nelson Sauvin and Hallertau Blanc intensifies the vinous character of the beer.

Light amber with a purplish hue. Hazy. Big white head that dissipates quickly. No lace.
Lactic. A bit of muscadet grape aroma. Generic fruit and funk.
A bit of grainy malt, mostly sour grapes. Tart, a bit acetic. The lactic quality keeps it from being to strong. Some vanilla in the finish.
A bit more full-bodied than I prefer in either a sour, saison, or biere de garde.
Not my favorite.

Listed as a foeder-ages Biere de Garde with grapes; on tap:

A medium-dark amber beer seems fairly clear. Head was limited by the full pour, but a thin film covers 90% of the surface, congregating at the edges. Lacing is pretty solid on this pour.

Nose has an oaken wood and vanilla side that compliments the tang of the grape notes that lean wine-like when combined. A sweet vinagrette comes to mind overall.

Taste is a light cereal to biscuit malt opening backed by all the flavor equivalents of the nose. A little white wine vinegar leans more wine than sour vinegar. The barrel notes come it later, adding a tannic aspect. The grape juice itself strengthens towards the back of the beer.

Sweet aspects don’t keep the beer from ending dry (the wood seems to help here) and pretty cleanly.

A nice combination of scents, flavors, and feel, well constructed.
