I was really impressed by this beer.

It was black with a big beige head with a lot of lacing.

Aroma and flavor were heavy on coffee, semisweet chocolate, and roast with a light touch of medium crystal malt and hopped appropriately for the heft and RIS style. Complex with a great balance of roast, sweetness, and bittering.

Feel is good but probably a little lighter than most for the style - hard to tell if a help or a hindrance but I'm going with help - syrupy never helped any beer.

Super excited I got to try this and definitely a top performer for the style.

Appearance: Jet black, clear, very persistent kaki colored head.

Aroma: Slight boozy aroma, dark fruit, roasted malt, coffee

Taste: Rich and bold, coffee, cocoa, warming

Mouth feel: Full bodied, creamy, and thick.

Overall: This is the fall 2019 edition of Declaration. Just what you expect from an Imperial Stout, bold, rich and full bodied. Some are a little too boozy, I think Reformation hit this on the nose. It's definitely warming, but not overly so. I am currently sitting by a nice fire on an early cold evening in November. It is a perfect night cap sip. Can't find anything to complain about; except it's seasonal, so it goes fast. A well crafted Imperial Stout.

Pours an inky black with a tight band around the shoulders. Nose is expresses roasted notes and I also get a suggestion of peanuts. Taste is roasty and ashy with some chocolate in the background. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (a bit thin for the style) with a mild, even carbonation. Overall, a fair example of the style.

You can smell the chocolate and coffee, and it has a very healthy and foamy head for a stout. The coffee taste is pronounced. While it goes down well, I would have like it to have been a bit more viscous. It was still damn good though.

Well just bang your fist on the pulpit and whale away with the gavel, the brewery that's damn skippy going to change the country through beer flavor alone has certainly challenged the notion of what imperial stout can be. With the drinkability of a drier and more somber standard American stout, this high gravity version will sneak up on you, so mind your p's & q's.

Onyx black and with the fluidity of ink, the frothy, sandy cap laces lightly and round with rim with the toasty scent of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, robust nuttiness and a hint of grilled fruit with vinous red wine. Burnt sugars coat the tongue along with hints of toffee, burnt toast, pecan and molasses.

With those sweet and roasty malts latching onto the tastebuds, the middle palate introduces a hint of burnt marshmallow and graham cracker. Its creamy roast provides a full texture with a bitter and piney finish hot on the heels of taste. Dark chocolate, walnut and char add a campfire whimsy to the stout as the sweetness fades and the bitterness of toasted pinecone and singed citrus peel linger onward.

Full yet not boisterous, the imperial stout trends sharply roasty, dry and dangerously drinkable. Any beer of this alcohol level and assertive malt stature should not drink this easily. A simmer of coffee liquor and a quaint tannic bite of fruit skins provide a warmth and a bite to close the session, along with a long roasty aftertaste.

A: Nice and dark almost black color.
S: Strong roasted aroma.
T: Toasted and roasted flavors, with coffee and chocolate. A great fullness of flavor without coming across too sweet which some Imperial Stouts have a tendency to do. I find this beer should really be allowed to warm up a little, don't drink it straight out of the fridge.
M: Good balance, delivering a full flavor.
O: I really enjoy this beer and it took all my attention.
