This Stoup ale is a little different from the run of the mill bourbon barrel aged beers that we've got a lot of, especially the stouts. It's a dark ale, but not all the way to imperial stout territory. The raisins are prominent, and the whiskey is pretty strong. The wood from the barrel is present. There's some vanilla. The whole mix of flavors is well balanced, and very fine. It's one of the better BBA beers I've had, not counting the great standbys from Fremont, Deschutes, or Firestone Walker. But among other brewers, it's at the head of the class.
