Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger khaki head with that dissipates to dense patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with a hint of biscuit, cocoa and light coffee. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, dark chocolate and roasty, black coffee. Coffee and char notes increase into a roasty, dark malt finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. This one is toasted malt forward, with remarkable coffee and toasted malt notes. The lingering aftertaste is deep coffee with chocolate, and good chocolate at that. The initial part of the taste seemed uncomplex, but the finish redeems this one. It's nice for a change to have a stout emphasizing the malt toasting but with good balance with the other flavors. Great cause for a local bail fund too. Probably a one-off, but I'd like to see it again.
