Pours black with a tan head. Dire Wolf is still one of the most beautiful beers I've seen, and each variant stays true to that. The nose is oak, rum, roasted malts and touches of sweet caramel. The taste yields chocolate, roasted malts, rum, oak and a touch of alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a smooth creamy finish. Overall, it's a nice variant of Dire Wolf. There are better options out there, but that doesn't mean you should discount this beer. It's well put together, the barrel adds great complexities without being overwhelming and it's simply a good rum barrel stout.

Poured pitch black with a mocha brown head. Plenty of Rum on both the aroma and taste. The roasted malt from the base beer holds it's own against the Rum. I'm not a huge fan of Rum barrel aged beers, but this was a good one.

Enjoyed 1/23/2016 at the tap room on tap as part of a barrel aged flight.
Little head on tester for all five. Dark brown for all five. Little lacing for all five. Tan head all five.
