Pouring classic black with dark brown edges, this builds a tall, dense dark tan foam that slowly settles to a thin but persistent creamy blanket.
Aroma is salted dark chocolate almond bar. There's a touch of booze that brings to mind spiced rum and vanilla bean.
Taste is chocolatey, but not too decadent, with a nice dark chocolate and cacao bean earthiness, as well as a touch of roasted almond. The bourbon barrel and the salt seem to play off each other, with a bit of char as well as a pinch of salt that brings out a depth of flavor other stouts seem to lack, damn near coming across like a chocolate cheesecake with an Oreo crust. A hint of vanilla comes out on the tail of the warming exhale, while the sweetness grows as it warms.
The medium body is smooth and mostly slick with a mildly crisp but light carbonation before a semi-dry, slightly stinging finish.
