Nippert is our English Barleywine. The beer is bold, intensely malty, and perfect for aging. Once barrel aged, it becomes Lil’ Nippert - because a little is all you need! This batch was aged in 17 year old George Dickel Bourbon Barrels for over 20 months.

I tried this beer off the tapper at the taproom in downtown Columbus, Ohio as part of a five sample flight. It poured a very dark rich amber with ecru head that did not leave much lace. The sent has bourbon and dark fruit notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet malt base and bourbon and dark fruit presence. The mouthfeel was fuller in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

Poured into a snifter. Pours a dark brown. You can see the lighter red-tan at the bottom of the murk. Smells like a typical barleywine. You know the aroma... it's sweet and fruity but alcoholic. It's the bakery aroma too with the sugar, vanilla, and caramel. The taste is similar, too; it's what you expect. I am getting a cinnamon sugar flavor up front. It is followed by some juicy stone fruit, rather cherry, and bready malts. There is definitely an oaken, earthy note there too. It's warming, leaning toward full-bodied, oily slick, rich, carbonated. A touch of spice.
Another good one, no surprise. I'm curious about how it would have turned out if aged like the description mentions. Another one of the stash, down... it's getting skimpy.
Also, this is the Lil Nippert version, not the Lil Nibbert. The Untapped check-ins are a mess due to this confusion.

22 ounce bottle, packaged February 2023. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a murky dark brown color with a slight reddish tinge, and about an inch tan head that stuck around for a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar and some dark fruit. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some oaky, earthy and dark bready flavors. A little boozy too but not bad at all. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and a bit rich with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a pretty good overall barrel aged barleywine, definitely glad I picked up this one!
