This batch of Nippert was aged in 17 year old George Dickel Bourbon Barrels for over 20 months. We then added Earl Grey tea, Ugandan cacao nibs, and orange zest. This infusion brings forth notes of bourbon, honey, chocolate, and bright citrusy Bergamot.

Jan 2023 Bottle pours an effervescent Chesnut hued Mahogany with a pinky of mocha colored head. Some lacing & head retention
S: Deep Whiskey Barrel notes, dark fruit, molasses, fades a touch once warm
T: Follows the nose, so much oakyness, a little leafy hop & toffee notes up front. Sweet Bourbon notes, oaky dryness, figs a little raisin & leafy hops once warmed up, hints of maple candy. Sweet toffee, notes plenty of Bourbon, faint leafy & woody hops in the dry finish, brown sugar in abundance
MF: Chewy, but with enough carbonation to push it along, warming. Body thins out a bit once warm, sticky
This beer commands respect & sips, lots to like here

Dark, cola-colored draught. A little bit of a reddish hue in the light. Not much head retention for me, probably my fault. I do smell the tea right away. My tea knowledge is lacking, so I can't name the individual spices or whatnot, so take the Earl Grey mix at face value. It is a bit floral and citrusey, though. The taste follows. It's a very nice, tea-like drink with a cherry backbone. That chocolate and sugar component is underneath all that - I'm sure it's very easy to overpower the tea with all that, so nicely done. Quite warming, creamy, and coating for a mid-bodied beer.
It's always a shame to go through these bottles, knowing the experience is only once.

22 ounce bottle, packaged February 2023. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a hazy dark brown/ruby red color with almost an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like dark fruit, orange peel, bergamot, bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar and cacao. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but with the addition of some oaky and dark bready flavors. I think the Earl Grey/bergamot/orange peel flavors stand out but without overpowering the other ones. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. Kinda boozy, not sure if I should have aged this a bit longer or not. I liked this one a lot, but recommend this more to people who like Earl Grey tea!

22 oz bottle poured into snifter.
A: Small Soapy off white head that settles quickly. The body is a deep brown with very little light coming through.
S: A lot of an herbal smell and chocolate. Maybe a little bourbon but a lot more of an herbal and almost Italian season spice smell.
T: Lots of chocolate fairly sweet and a strong herbal tea taste with some odd spice flavor. A lot of the underlying beer is very disguised just lots of lush dark chocolate, herbal flavor, and underlying alcohol.
M: medium bodied a bit thin but fuller on the finish.
O: This beer really gets glazed over by the chocolate and tea it masks the flavor of the BA Nippert quite a bit. I wouldn’t have guessed this was barrel aged unless I already knew. That being said it’s pretty unique and not bad. The more I drank it he less and less I cared for it.
