Poured into two whiskey glasses from a 12-oz can purchased at the brewery.
Appearance: Yellow gold, with a small white head that dissipated almost immediately and left virtually no lacing.
Nose: Sugar, almonds, and sweet, ripe stonefruit.
Mouthfeel: Medium, about right for a cream ale. Some carbonation.
Attack: What you’d expect from a cream ale, some bread (the rice?), some sweetness.
Finish: This is more complex, as it starts out following the nose, then adds a bit of bitterness, and then lingers with the taste that followed the nose.
Overall: We tried this on tap at the brewery in a flight, and fell in love with it. The canned version is not quite as smooth, but still highly enjoyable. This is a chick beer that a guy can enjoy. Very drinkable. We’re savoring it this afternoon with strawberries, blueberries, and fontina cheese on crackers. In fact, it’s good enough I’m going to go get another one from the six-pack to pour.
Nice job, Wolf’s Ridge!
