On tap at the brewery – full pint
10/18/2014
A: Dark ruddy amber body with considerable haze blurring up the scene. Not much bubbly action but still retains a nice healthy head of khaki cream. Slowly settles out to a halo that hugs the glass leaving some sticky remnants behind after every sip.
S: Smells floral and lightly dank with some hop spice and a touch of pine resins. There is a good amount of bready malt action along with some stone fruit like esters emitting as well. Not all that bad actually
T: Healthy malted breads up front with a resinous puckering of hop bitterness to follow. Flavors are a nice mix of dank, spice, pine, and soft tropical fruits. Has a bit of pear like fruity esters comingling as well. Finishes out with a resinous spice note. Alcohol is well incorporated and this does have some decent balance to it. Not a traditional west coaster or anything but no real distinguishable flaws here.
M: The mouth feel is creamy with a moderate filling body. There is an upper amount of puckering bitterness to this with a dry and sticky residual finish.
D: A decent attempt I would say. A little less refined than some of the bigger operations but this has some good hop flavors balanced with plenty of pale malts. Probably my favorite from the day and their best offering by far.

Appearance: Nice and clear apricot copper. An off-white head head. Small amount of spotted, sudsy lacing. Minimal retention.
Nose: Tiny bit of grapefruit, and some honey, little touch of malt.
Taste: Grapefruit, orange rind, lots of malt, with a clean fruity finish.
Notes: Tastes a little homebrew-ish.

Vintage: 2014
Appearance: Hazy Copper; Fluffy White Head; Good Lacing; Medium Carbonation Activity
Smell: Faint Grapefruit; Honey; Biscuit Malt
Taste: Big Malt Sweetness; Slight Sour Note; Indistinguishable Fruit, Old Peach?
Mouth-feel: Low Carbonation; Creamy, almost like it’s on Nitro; Medium Body;
Overall: Bleh!
Comments: The people at this brewery are amazing, and will gladly talk to you about all things beer. Unfortunately, this beer misses the mark, particularly for being in San Diego County and claiming to be a “West Coast IPA.”
