On tap at the brewery – Taster from flight

A: Dark black bean in color with some plum like tones to it that almost give a purplish hue. Completely blocks out any light trying to get through. Thick khaki topper that holds over rather impressively. Some nice dotting and splotchy lace hits the glass.
S: Light with some smoky aromatics but more like ashtray and not so much bonfire. Rye bread with rye spice presence. Not much fragrance to this one at all actually. Light ashy smoke and rye spice is about it.
T: Taste like ashy char and rye spiced bread with an odd herbal component to it. Something almost pharmaceutical about it. The beer has a low amount of hop bitterness and the alcohol is well masked throughout. Creamy and lush with decent balance but the flavors just aren’t working for me.
M: Moderate to lighter body with a nice creamy consistency on the palate. Smooth and frothy with a light drying at the finish. Clean overall I would say.
D: A smoked Rye Ale is quite the concept and I think it can be done well. Smoking Wood from the Bruery for example. This one is not quite as successful unfortunately.
