Poured a jet black color with a small, thin, light-brown colored head of foam. It smelled of oak, wood and chocolate. Nice roasty flavor with a touch of oak and vanilla.

it's brown.
smells like wood and vanilla.
tastes like wood and vanilla.
it's thin.
there's nothing really bad about this beer, but there's nothing to recommend it, either. i think the base beer is lacking and the barrel aging doesn't add much.

Appearance: Dark brown, nearly non-existant head.
Smell: Vanilla, wood, a kind of floral note.
Taste: Roasted malt, mild sweetness, with very light vanilla/wood flavor. Maybe a little less bitterness in the finish than your standard porter.
Overall: Picked up a bomber to try from this local brewery. I was a little disappointed, if given this blind, I'm not sure I would have been able to tell it was barrel-aged. It's a pretty decent base porter, but the barrel almost seemed to take away rather than add--very low carbonation and head.

Great smell and taste, with the malty chocolate and oak aged flavor really shining through. But there was literally zero carbonation in this beer and no head at all. Maybe a technical issue during bottling, or just a bad batch? Either way it was a very underwhelming experience. I would seek this out on tap, though. It's got the right flavors, just needs some bubbles!
