May 2014: Shared bottle at local tasting. Golden colour, moderate white head. Unpleasant aroma of acetone and industrial waste. Sweet flavour, a hint of fruit, no bitterness. This must be the most miserable British beer I’ve had so far.

A decent beer to sit and drink at a pub or whatever. I wouldn't call it epic or that it would stand out in a crowd, just a decent easy drinking beer.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2014, so it's just out of date. Purchased a while back from the York Beer & Wine shop. Called Shetland lager on the bottle and brewed a hundred miles north of the mainland.

A: Poured into a stemmed pilsner glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy golden-amber hue with fine sediment and light carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of grainy malt with hints of grass/hay, mild noble hops, earthy yeast, a twinge of honey and a faint nuttiness. Possesses the aromatic depth of a good lager - nice.

T: Tastes of grainy malt with a dry finish. Notes of toasted grain, grass/hay, subtle noble hops, earthy yeast, faint stewed hops/husks and a touch of honey. Well-attenuated, followed by a crisp, restrained bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with soft carbonation and good body. Mildly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of earthy yeast, delicate floral hops and a subtle, leafy bitterness.

O: Rather good - the character evolves as it warms up. Looks nice, while the aroma and flavour are a satisfying blend of grainy malt, floral hops and lager yeast. Great depth of flavour. The body is well-judged and it goes down a treat. A superior offering from the far North - worth sampling if you come across it.
