A very nice Scottish ale. Unique taste. Sweet toffee with cocoa, finishes earthy peat, mineral. Dark mahogany color light head with little lace. Mouth feel is medium. Liked it enough I left with a growler. Still good at home. Wish it had a little more carbonation. Will do again

Sampling this beer from a growler I picked up at the brewpub and pouring into a snifter. the beer pours a clear deep colored mahogany hue with some fizzy beige head that fades pretty quickly to nothing on the surface.
Aroma is caramel and toffee, a little booze and maybe some peat but also maybe a little burnt note. Tough to tell, but something that jumps out a little and doesnt quite fit.
First sip reveals a slightly syrupy fairly thick bodied beer with mild rolling carbonation. Definitely could be a bit of a sipper and polishing off an entire growler wasnt the easiest task.
Flavor is some sweet malt and toffee, a bit of brown sugar, and a hint of booze. I dont get any hops as I drink it. The beer also has a bit of the peaty note on the finish and flavors linger on my palate after each sip.
This is a bold beer and adds up pretty quickly on my sampling. I am glad to have tried it. I would like to get back to the brewpub and try some other brews.
IF you get a growler split it with a friend.

Had this initially on 2014-06-14 at the brewery on tap. Had it again on 2015-10-04 from a growler just purchased at the brewery. Made a few adjustments to my comments and ratings.

A - Clear dark brown with ruby. 1-finger tan head with great lace.

S - Light chocolate, caramel, toffee, earthy spice, maybe a touch of peat. Quite nice.

T - Rich medium-roasted malt, plenty of chocolate and the right amount of caramel sweetness. Some light char and smoke, earthy spice, vanilla, mineral. Roast and hop bitterness in the finish with an element of an unusual spice/aspirin/mineral flavor.

M - Medium-heavy body and light carbonation. Syrupy but not sweet. Dries out nicely. Really good feel.

O - This is very nice. There is a house malt profile to these well-done beers. A profile that keeps me coming back.

Notes: Served in a 12 oz glass.
