Gargoyle Smolder

Poured from a small growler into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark reddish brown with a fine, one finger light khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, light smoked malt, light cocoa and a little mineral. Flavor is dark, moderately toasted malt, light cocoa and some wood smoke. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A satisfactory smoked porter with a somewhat subdued malt body and mild smoke. I tried a taster of the stout on tap and this porter; this was the more interesting choice, although it seemed like the taster had a little more smokiness, which is odd because that was on tap and colder. A little cocoa, but not too much flavor depth. Looks nice, but nothing really stands out. Probably would have scored lower if it wasn't smoked.
