Wild ale from one of my favorite farm breweries. Found this in a nearby shop that I hadn't seen before. A look at the Plan Bee website shows this was brewed 4/5/22 and bottled 1/20/23 and is for sale in what they call the "Spontaneous Box Set." Seems appropriate to review, as they are putting it out in the marketplace. Poured from a 12.7 oz bottle into a beer flute.
Reddish color, not a deep red but lighter shade, some haziness but translucent. A good half-inch-plus of white foam that is initially a very light pink. Good head retention, and some lacing.
Very pleasant nose, with a light tartness, and some barnyard funk. Light cherry aroma and a bit of berries there as well. A bit of grassiness and light malt notes.
Firm tartness, with notes of cherry and raspberries. Notes of oak show up, particularly on the finish.
Medium body. Good carbonation. A texture characteristic of oak aging is present, drying the palate with a slight astringent note but not unpleasant.
An excellent tart ale. I really enjoy these offerings from Plan Bee, and this one is particularly impressive.
