From the Boozebud Advent Calendar 2022, day 24. Drunk in August 2023.
Drinking a Christmas beer on the last day of the Southern Hemisphere winter seems oddly appropriate, if eight months late...
L: Dark ruby-like scarlett in the glass, with a mocha-coloured, long-lasting head. No carbonation can be seen through the dark, impenetrable-to-light beer.
S: There's a definite gingerbread cookie note to the nose, with some brown sugar and caramel.
T: How do you describe this? It's like a gingerbread house crossed with Doctor Pepper. The gingerbread note is clear and strong, but the finish has that Dr Pepper medicinal note to it that plays ok with the gingerbread but has me wondering whether I'm enjoying it after every sip. On balance, I'd say I am, but I shouldn't have to think that hard about a beer.
M: The body of the beer is quite thin, and the carbonation in the mouth is quite heavy, meaning the beer takes on a soda quality in the mouth, perhaps reinforcing the Dr. Pepper impression in my mind. The ginger note leaves a slight burn in the chest after the swallow.
O: As noted above, I'm not sure I enjoyed this, and so overall, it's being marked down despite it definitely bringing the advertised gingerbread to the table. It's a Christmas beer, so might have gone down better with accompanying rich and heavy Christmas food, but that boat has long since passed as I drink this in August.
Cheers!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
