I enjoyed my first Pfefferbrau bier vom fass in their tent in the Weinacht's Markt auf Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin on Christmas day 2013. 3,20€/,5L
I've listed it here as a "German Pilsner" because that is how they've described it on their website, but really it's much more then that. Here are my notes: very dark gold; excellent head with very good retention (possible dirty glass as they're very busy) and excellent lacing. Malt and hops mix nicely in the aroma. Bold bitterness with firm malt and a strong hop flavor. Grassy and lightly piney up front, followed by a grassy and floral finish. It's really quite unique in Berlin, standing out for it's more complex maltiness and greater hop flavor and aroma, but without going so far as to turn against its tradition.
