an ipa with yuzu fruit, brewed in collaboration with the japanese style arcade next door, who is calling this one button masher. its a tasty beer, incredibly easy drinking, but its a little safe compared to what i was hoping for. mostly clear with a very short white head, aroma of piney hops, a little honey sweetness on the malt, and the light twang of the yuzu, they really could have ramped up the fruit addition, especially with such a mild base beer, this seems almost underdone in the nose and in the taste too. the yuzu tastes natural and fresh to me, but i kind of have to go looking for it, like its not at the forefront here at all. the hops are bitter but sort of mild in flavor too, which leaves a void in the middle that more yuzu would fill. the flavors work great together, but its just really mellow. the mouthfeel lags a little for me too, like the carbonation just isnt quite there, not giving the life that the beer seems to want from it. this is a neat idea though, and the beer is well enough made. i think its just a couple of easy improvements away from being awesome. for now, its a lightly citrusy pale ale tasting brew thats fresh but sort of lifeless. i hope they do this one again and step it up!
