Big Water Nut Brown Ale

a really average brown ale here, nicely frothy on the pour and pretty well carbonated, but thin and one dimensional as they go, and not at all my favorite crow hop beer i have had. i like an english ale yeast in this style for sure, but here it seems a little stale and even tannic when it warms up a little bit, not totally fresh and not quite right. similarly, the hops seem a little overdone for the style, more bitterness than it needs but the flavor is pleasant still. i like the cocoa note to the malt, and the light dried fruitiness in here, a layer often missing in a conventional or classic brown ale type, and i appreciate the depth of flavor, but this seems somehow technically flawed to me, hard to put my finger on exactly, and its not bad, it just doesnt quite all come together for me. i need a little more body in my brown ale too, especially this time of year. crow hop beers continue to be hit or miss for me, some consistence issues perhaps. i will revisit this at some point, tasting conditions were likely less than optimal for this beer when i had it, more to come down the road...
