not a ton of crow hop handles around town, so i was excited to see this at historians ale house on broadway. its a nice malty red ale with less sweetness than is common in american reds, but less yeast character than i usually look for in the irish types, a cool fusion in the genre here. copper in color, tarnished penny shade, with a lot of fizz on top, active carbonation, and a nose that shows just a little more hops than i am used to in the style. flavor is totally grain driven though, nice rich nutty malt base with notes of leather and toffee. drier in finish than anticipated, and carbonation is aggressive, which is nice in a malty beer like this. i have had very little from these guys, so this serves as a pleasant introduction to their beer. i could session these all afternoon.

Bomber served cold into a pint glass.
Rado's Red is a redish brown color with good clarity when held to the light. Head is thick and has good retention.
Aroma is malty and sweet with a brown bread and caramel character.
Flavor is also sweet but balanced. Hops are there in the background but this beer is more about the malts. Toasted bread, a little chocolate, and a hint of pine.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. I haven't gotten to the bottom of the bottle but I would guess it is bottle conditioned.
Overall a solid red ale but I'd like to see what else they have on tap at the brewery.

My usual staple when visiting Crow Hop. Beer can be inconstant at times which is a distraction but for the most part when its on its good.
The beer comes out a ruby red color with good clarity and a soft fizzy head. Good head retention but doesn't last through the tasting. The nose is malt forward with some noticeable caramel malt sweetness up front. Some softer hop notes more along the citrus American hop. Cascade and maybe a touch centennial.
The taste is similar. Sweetness up front with the kettle caramel note that lingers into the finish. Would like more astringency to balance either with malt or better yet hops. Good finishing hops that play well with the malt on the back end. Leaves more of citrus forward flavor. Some yeast bite but not over the top.
The body is moderate but finishes sweet. Carbonation is light but ok. Overall a pretty good red.
