Pours a cloudy medium orange color, somewhat bright which is appealing. Not much for a head on it but what's there is silky antique white with some spotty lacing.
The aroma is interesting. You get a citrus hit but it has a malty, alcohol-ish bite to it that augments the hops without getting in the way. There is some other pungent fresh fruit notes that strike me as something between apricot and strawberry - and that is what gives it that "intreresting" distinction. I'm not an alcohol-smelling beer guy but this twist keeps me in the game.
The taste is fresh and bold citrus hops up front that quickly give way to an ever-growing bitterness. By midway through you realize that this is a solidly extra bitter beer with more than judicious boiling hops. This bitterness crowds out the finishing flavors that appears to be more sweet like orange. The malt whiffs on the scent seem not to play as major a role in the flavor profile.
Mouthfeel is dominated by bitterness but flaked oats make it a soft beer and there is a light stickiness on the lips one might expect from a higher alcohol beer. There is a light alcohol burn that stays out of the way when the beer is colder but kicks in as it breathes.
The extra bitterness is a bit of a rare variety in southern Maine NEIPAs these days. If you're looking for a gauge think Dogfish Head 90 or 120 minute IPA. Yeah, that much. However the soft feel and rich citrus hops balance it out to a very drinkable choice for those who are looking for something more akin to a DIPA. SoMe has been a bit hit or miss for my tastes but I can't deny they pack a ton of flavor and finesse into their beers. Meek they are not.

Tail Whip is a hazy orange color with a small white head and a smattering of lace.
Fruity aroma, mostly citrus, some tropical. Sweet malt.
Lots of fruit in the taste. In no particular order: grapefruit, orange, melon, pineapple, and passionfruit.
Nicely bitter mouthfeel.
Good beer. Happy to drink it
